the bird-man Koukichi's story..a story of a man who spend his whole life to be a bird, yearning for sky
Message from the author, SHUJI KOMATSU Hello Thank you for being interested in "the bird-manKoukichi". First of all, I'd like to introduce myself.
I live in Kamaido koutou-ku, Tokyo. From childhood, I like flying things. I made airplanes and plastic models in my childhood. On October 1991, I took a paper airplane (WhiteWings) home from AEROSPACE SCOUTS ASSOCIATION Which my son and daughter belonged to. As soon as I looked at this paper plane, it reminded me of my love for flying things from childhood. I made WhiteWings and foolishly took part in Kimura-Cup. I met Dr.NINOMIYA YASUAKI, the designer of WhiteWings, who touched my airplane with magical hands, and tuned up to be able to fly for no less than 30 seconds. This is why I am enthusiastic about paper airplanes. After that, all the members of my family became to participate in contests. My daughter and I won a champion and a runner-up on regulation rule game of The 2nd Japan peeper airplane Championship's. And I fortunately won a champion. I think this changed my life. After I met paper airplanes, I went to the National Air and Space Museum in America three times. And I traveled Kitty Hawk and Dayton with Dr.Ninomiya and my paper airplane companions. I want to fly paper airplanes on the hill Lilienthal flew someday. I think it is champion's duty to take care of paper airplane classes as manus as possible. I feel pleasure about coaching many people. A newspaper reported that the Birdman Koukichi Study Group was kaunched in Okayama. That reminded me of that my father had said,"There was a man dove from a bridge with bird's appearance in Okayama." when I was 10 years old. And I got in touch with the chairman, Mr.Koizumi, who gave me a lot of materials and opinions. I wanted to broaden Koukichi's story, because his image of planning wings and images fascinated with flying of many people including myself overlapped. If you want to know details, please read this text. Most of readers ask me whether plans and wings are left. And I answer they were completely burned because he was treated as criminal. Meeting of SHUJI KOMATSU and us
ActiveGals gave a lecture on our HPA activities in International Human-Powered Flight Symposium held on August 1994 in Seattle America. On December 1995,the next year, the 1st Skysport Symposium was held in Japan after this International Human-Powered Flight Symposium. Our team gave some lectures there, one of them was the same as what we had lectured in International Human-Powered Flight Symposium. In this paper, we told about the first flyer in Japan, UKITA KOUKICHI, and it quoted pictures of Koukichi's flight. This is when we first met Mr.Komatsu, he listened to our lecture. Mr.Komatsu talked to us after our lecture. He said, "I am interested in UKITA KOUKICHI and survey him." All the members of his family are contest flyers of paper airplane. He won the champion of Japan-Cup of paper airplane championship's. We have heard that flight techniques of his wife and children are very nice, and as well as him. Now, we became to be able to carry the birdman Koukichi's story in our ActiveGals' homepage. We very much appreciate his cooperation. Mr.Komatsu donated this paper " A romance of paper airplane" to the National Air and Space Museum, when he visited the museum in America.
