No.11 Koukichi's journey has ended
Koukichi had been gratified with the result of his flight at the Abekawa river. He attained his purpose, which he flew in the sky like a bird. But, he was arrested from the police station on the following day. Some river laborers on the Abekawa river testified that Koukichi had flown in the sky, and his glider was a positive proof. He was suspected of a spy who was researching about the feudal lord. He was examined by the policemen very hard. An investigator looked into his background. On this investigation, it was found that Koukichi had flown in the sky in Okayama about 23 years ago. The police of Fuchu judged Koukichi was guilty. But it was a banishment from Fuchu,too. Tomozou Ohwada, a boss at Mitsuke (Iwata city in Shizuoka), heard which Koukichi had been banished. Koukichi had made an artificial tooth to Tomozou. Then Tomozou asked Koukichi to come over. Koukichi went to Mitsuke. ![]() Koukichi lived in happy life for 40 years with his family. When it had passed 62 years since Koukichi flew at the first time in Okayama, he died a natural death at 91 years old on Aug. 21,1847. Koukichi was buried in the graveyard of the Buddhist temple, Daikenji, on central of Mitsuke. And, Otto Lilienthal was born in Germany in the following year(1848). |
